What is S.E.E.D.?

Teachers and parents know how difficult it can be to keep young minds focused on schoolwork and the educational learning process. Educators are challenged every day to make the educational experiences interesting and exciting. That's why SHOP 'n SAVE introduced the Students Extra Educational Development (S.E.E.D.) school assembly program more than ten years ago, and will continue to fund it each year in partnership with the Carnegie Science Center, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

The S.E.E.D. program partners provide a series of fun and educational programs presented at school assemblies for thousands of kindergarten through grade eight students in hundreds of public and private school systems throughout Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

Schools become eligible for an assembly in their school by collecting SHOP 'n SAVE register receipts totaling $250 (including tax) for each student attending the assembly. One of the three S.E.E.D. partners of your choosing then presents a 35 – 40 minute show at the school that offers students a fun, hands-on learning experience dealing with topics ranging from science and the environment to learning about animals and ocean life.

S.E.E.D. is a key component of SHOP 'n SAVE's belief that "The greatest reward comes from helping others." The supermarket's group of independent retailers and corporate stores throughout Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia has long supported a number of civic, community and chartiable projects in the communities served by SHOP 'n SAVE.
