MDA - Muscular Dystrophy Association

Each year SHOP 'n SAVE independent owners and operators, customers, vendors and employees team up to raise funds for muscular dystrophy research. This is the 9th year of participation in the primary activity Shamrocks Against Dystrophy.

In addition to employees at all SHOP 'n SAVE stores selling green and gold Shamrocks to help with the fight against neuromuscular diseases, SHOP 'n SAVE and MDA also hold an annual golf tournament in July and in August customers support the Aisles of Smiles program.

2009 was a record-breaking year for SHOP 'n SAVE and the Shamrock program with a generous total of $52,221. Through this effort SHOP 'n SAVE will be able to do one of the following: send 65 children to MDA Summer Camp, fund 600 minutes of research, provide 522 support groups for families, or assist with the purchase of 26 wheelchairs, leg braces, or communication devices.

MDA's Shamrocks Against Dystrophy program directly helps local families living with a neuromuscular disease in many ways including:

• Sending local children to MDA Summer Camp at Camp Kon-O-Kwee
• Worldwide research programs and clinic visits at Children's Hospital and UPMC
• Assisting families with the purchase of necessary medical equipment

MDA is a national organization that provides help and hope locally to families living with one of the 43 forms of muscular dystrophy, including ALS. MDA provides help through MDA Summer Camp, clinic visits, and medical equipment, and hope through the ongoing research for treatment and cures of neuromuscular diseases.

Through the MDA Shamrocks Against Dystrophy fundraising program, SHOP 'n SAVE supports sending children to MDA Summer Camp.
