SHOP 'N SAVE S.E.E.D. PROGRAM BRINGS DINOSAURS AND SCIENCE
TO 'LIFE' AT LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Grocer Hosts Over 60 Carnegie Science Center and Museum of Natural Traveling Assemblies
Pittsburgh, Pa – June XX, 2009- The SHOP 'n SAVE "Students Extra Educational Development (S.E.E.D.)" program brought science and history to life for area students by hosting dozens of Carnegie Science Center and Carnegie Museum of Natural History assemblies to over 60 elementary schools July through May. The traveling assemblies appeared in schools throughout Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio and were high-energy theatrical productions with hands-on science and educational activities for grades pre-kindergarten through eighth.
The assemblies covered a variety of exciting and educational topics including paleontology, weather, dinosaurs, biodiversity and physics. SHOP 'n SAVE has hosted the S.E.E.D. program for over 20 years, bringing assemblies from The Pittsburgh Zoo, Carnegie Science Center and Carnegie Museum of Natural History to children of all ages. To be eligible to participate in the S.E.E.D. program, students are asked to collect receipts from SHOP 'n SAVE and submit to the school coordinator. Once $250 in receipts for each student attending the assembly is collected, the program can be scheduled.
"Thanks to the S.E.E.D. program, SHOP 'n SAVE has helped educate students for over two decades," said Bill Lipsky, Director of Merchandising from SUPERVALU who supplies the independent Shop 'n Save Group. "We are extremely proud of the program and hope to reach even more students in the years to come."
The Carnegie assemblies reach more than 200,000 students annually with programs that are aligned with National and Pennsylvania State Academic Standards. To participate in future S.E.E.D. programs or for more information, please visit www.shopnsavefood.com/seedintro.aspx
