PITTSBURGH – June 7, 2011 – SHOP ‘n SAVE®, the independently owned and operated grocery chain with more than 70 stores in Western Pa., Ohio and West Virginia, announced today it will now be displaying a new in-store program, Healthy Elements™, to easily educate consumers about the health benefits of certain products.

Tags marked “Healthy Elements” on shelves will help shoppers identify products featuring any of nine important dietary attributes. These attributes include foods that are low fat, low calorie, gluten free, low sodium, low cholesterol, a good source of calcium, a good source of fiber, whole grain, or organic. All food items are marked according to the manufacturer’s Nutritional Facts panel based on current FDA definitions, ingredient listings and labeling restrictions.

“The food purchased at the grocery store plays a large role in overall health and wellness,” said Bill Lipsky, area sales director for SUPERVALU, which supplies the independently owned and operated SHOP ‘n SAVE stores. “SHOP ‘n SAVE is proud to be using the Healthy Elements program to help our customers make the most informed and educated decision possible when shopping for food.”
