PITTSBURGH , Pa-.- July 8, 2010-- SHOP 'n SAVE®, the independently owned and operated grocery chain with more than 70 stores in Western Pa., Ohio and West Virginia., will celebrate its 10th Anniversary as presenting sponsor of the annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) beginning July 11 with a kickoff rally and running through July 25. As in previous years, SHOP 'n SAVE will host a hospitality tent open to the public and located on the Schenley Park Golf Course in Oakland. To date, SHOP 'n SAVE's combined efforts have helped fuel a total of $2.5 million in donations for PVGP charities, The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School.
“SHOP 'n SAVE's 10th Anniversary as presenting sponsor of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is a reflection of our retailers' commitment to help raise money for The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School," said Rich Haeflein, advertising account manager for SUPERVALU, which supplies the independently owned and operated SHOP 'n SAVE stores. "Our primary focus is to help raise additional funds through our hospitality tent.”
The SHOP 'n SAVE hospitality tent is free to the public, but donations are requested. Event attendees can put their driving skills to the test in the Kellogg's NASCAR Simulator. Silver Star Meats, locally owned since 1964, will serve its hot dogs and D'italia sausages, and music and entertainment will be provided by Street Level, a local and popular band. Other attractions include an appearance by the Turkey Hill swirled cow mascot, who will be passing out ice cream samples along side with the Hagan Company who will give out samples of its tasty popsicles. There will also be displays from the Soap Box Derby Association and the popular Oscar Mayer® Wienermobile.
The event is ten days of races, car shows and motorsports festivities. The SHOP 'n SAVE Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is the country's largest vintage race event and the only one contested on city streets. “SHOP 'n SAVE has been a vital part of our event for 10 years. This year marks a full decade of dedication to our event and our charities,” said PVGP Executive Director Dan DelBianco. “The retailers take an active role in the Grand Prix with their Hospitality Tent at the races and through their local store promotions. It has been a great partnership that has doubled our charitable contributions and fueled the tremendous growth of our event worldwide.”
