Pittsburgh - October 29, 2012 - On October 24, SHOP ‘n SAVE, the independently owned and operated grocery chain with more than 90 stores in Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Ohio and West Virginia, was honored by the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) during a special recognition ceremony at the Frick Art Museum for helping to raise a record $250,000 in donations for the PVGP’s designated charities – The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School. A significant amount of these donations came directly from the independent SHOP ‘n SAVE retailers and their customers. During its twelve years as presenting sponsor, SHOP ‘n SAVE’s combined efforts have helped to earn more than $3 million in donations.
“As presenting sponsor of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, our retailers have the opportunity to be a part of a first-class event that benefits a great cause,” said Rich Haeflein, advertising account manager for SUPERVALU, which supplies the independently owned and operated SHOP ‘n SAVE stores. “The SHOP ‘n SAVE retailers’ commitment to The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School is demonstrated in this year’s record donation.”
SHOP ‘n SAVE hosted a hospitality tent that was free to the public, but where donations were requested.
Event attendees could have their picture taken at the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and listen to music provided by the Street Level Band, a popular local band. Silver Star Meats, locally owned since 1964, served its hot dogs and sausages, and the Turkey Hill swirled cow mascot handed out free ice cream samples. All donations went directly to the PVGP charities.
The event featured ten days of races, car shows and motorsports festivities. The SHOP ‘n SAVE Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is the country’s largest vintage race event and the only one contested on city streets. “SHOP ‘n SAVE has been a vital part of the Grand Prix for more than a decade and this year was another great example of their dedication to our event and our charities,” said PVGP Executive Director Dan DelBianco. “The retailers take an active role in the Grand Prix with their Hospitality Tent at the races and through their local store promotions. It has been a great partnership that has enhanced our charitable contributions and fueled the tremendous growth of our event worldwide.”
