PITTSBURGH – November 2, 2010 – On October 27, SHOP ‘n SAVE®, the independently owned and operated grocery chain with more than 70 stores in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, was honored by the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) at the Wyndham Hotel in Pittsburgh for helping raise $150,000 in donations for PVGP charities. The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School are the designated charities for the PVGP. A significant amount of these donations came directly from the independent SHOP ‘n SAVE retailers and their customers.  During its ten years as presenting sponsor, SHOP ‘n SAVE’s combined efforts have helped raise more than $2.6 million in donations.

“This was our tenth anniversary as presenting sponsor of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and we couldn’t be more pleased with our retailers’ dedication,” said Rich Haeflein, advertising account manager for SUPERVALU, which supplies the independently owned and operated SHOP ‘n SAVE stores. “The donations reflect our retailers’ commitment to supporting The Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School.”

SHOP ‘n SAVE hosted a hospitality tent that was free to the public, but where donations were requested.
Event attendees could put their driving skills to the test in the Kellogg’s NASCAR Simulator.  Silver Star Meats, locally owned since 1964, served its hot dogs and D’italia sausages, and music and entertainment was provided by Street Level, a local and popular band. Other attractions included an appearance by the Turkey Hill cow mascot, who passed out ice cream samples along side with the Hagan Company who gave out samples of its tasty popsicles. There were also displays from the Soap Box Derby Association and the popular Oscar Mayer® Wienermobile.
